Missions We Support

Florida United Methodist Children's Home at Enterprise:  The Children's Home is a residential and non-residential children's service mission dedicated to the needs of children in a variety of situations.  Once an orphanage, the Home is now a 21st century provider of services from spiritual and psychological counseling, to tutoring and COPES training.

Medicine For Mali, "Helping a People at the Edge of Existence": This mission in alliance with Des Moines University is dedicated to becoming a national leader in international medical education while bring medical services, clean water, improved education, economic development and the promotion of sustainable agriculture to the people of Mali.  Mali is in western Africa just southwest of Algeria.  In Mali over 70% of its people live on less than $1 (USD) per day.  They have no real public health system, no sustainable safe drinking water supplies and other poor conditions that lead to a death rate of 120 infants per 1000 births (compared to a U.S. rate of 6.4 per 1000 infants).  Most of this is preventable.

Holy Ground: In accordance with a covenant established between the Methodist churches in Cuba and the Florida conference, Conway UMC is supporting a sister church, Holy Ground, in Limones, Cuba.  Holy Ground's pastor and his wife are Caesar and Yady Galano. The covenant that establishes this bond begins as follows:

"Affirming our common bond in Jesus Christ and our historical Wesleyan ties, we, the members of the Methodist Church in Cuba and the Florida Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, propose a covenant in Christ with one another. Noting Paul's words to the very diverse community gathering in a house church in Corinth, that "...we are partners in the work of service to our God..." (I Corinthians 3:9), we acknowledge our partnership for greater service to the mission of God and a stronger witness to the love of Jesus Christ".

"In prayerfully seeking God's will for our churches, we have envisioned Cuban churches restored for worship with the collaboration of volunteer teams from Florida; and Florida churches revived with Cuban teams sharing their spiritual enthusiasm and growth".

National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI)and NAMI Walks: The NAMI organization is composed of approximately 1100 local affiliates (NAMIGO is the affiliate for the Greater Orlando area), 50 state offices and a national office.   NAMI offers mental health aid to the community it serves.  The goals of the NAMI Walks program are: to fight the stigma that surrounds mental illness, to build awareness of the fact that the mental health system in this country needs to be improved, and to raise funds for NAMI so that they can continue their mission.  NAMI is a 501(c)3 charity and any donation you make is tax deductible.  NAMI has been rated by Worth magazine as among the top 100 charities "most likely to save the world" and has been given an  "A" rating by The American Institute of Philanthropy for efficient and effective use of charitable dollars.

Conway Food Pantry:  Life can at times deal extreme hardships.  To lend some hand, we operate a food pantry to help families and single people in our community with food.  We also help with rent or utility costs using monies from our Good Samaritan Fund as emergency relief, when required.  All food is donated by the church family.  The money used for the Good Samaritan fund comes through church giving - none is budgeted.
